Update about the Orcas & TGIFloorball

The KBFF Orcas in Division 3

Our first game against Zyrus FC marked the commencement of the Division 3 Singapore Floorball League. Although we got off on the wrong foot, it pushed us to train even harder for our next match. Our Man of the Match (MOTM) was Amielle Alimusa (#01), who was our keeper of the day with many nice saves to boot. Amielle has been with KBFF since she was 15!

Amielle: As a backup keeper, i felt honoured to kick off the season with the team. I haven’t stepped into court in the past year and i was hella nervous that i would mess up, however the girls gave me constant encouragement that i needed throughout the game which really helped me get in my zone. I’m ever so grateful to be in a team that puts so much faith and trust in me. I owe my motm title to the team & coach for their genuine support and guidance, y’all are da real mvp 💪

Determined to bounce back after our loss last week, we fought hard in our game against NTU Storm.

As aptly put by our MOTM Emily Ortega (#33), “The game on Sunday was a great one for us because not only was it our first win of the season, we displayed some fine team play and team spirit! We’ll continue to work hard and play well for the rest of the season…and score more goals!

Our lack of intensity and and focus cost us our third game against Katana FC. A third period fightback was not enough.

Our MOTM was Jaime Cheong and our players’ choice award went to one of our pioneers, Koh Hui An. She has been with us from our rough 2010 beginnings 😀

With the seniors putting in a good shift, this game was a timely wake up call for the young players to use the holiday break to train much harder.

A Bigger Meaning

#TGIFloorball yesterday, our weekly social seriously just for fun floorball session, was literally a ball of fun. We got to know two new players. One had not touched her stick since her pre-U days so it was a good feeling to be the place she fell in love with floorball again. Better yet, our current #TGIFers are improving and are starting to give our macho keeper a harder time.

Today, a good friend asked me what my vision was for KBFF. I had not really thought about that. Perhaps I would say for now that we want KBFF to be a team for women of all ages and backgrounds to be able to be themselves without judgment and play safely with neither prejudice nor sexism.

Have a good long weekend!

Back to training

Hope everyone had a fruitful long weekend. Sleep is for the weak!

Training for our women’s teams under coach Nahen continues tomorrow. If you are keen to play competitively, drop us a note.

#TGIFloorball is back on Friday. We had some responses over the weekend so looking forward to meeting fresh faces!

For our fifth annual futsal tournament, we need more responses to be able to go ahead with the various categories so do register your interest first so that we can help you with registration.

Our 8th year as KBFF

The seven-year itch happens to the best of relationships. After seven years, most relationships live on borrowed time.

On a positive note, the team has achieved so much in our seven years. Girls who joined at 16 are now in university. Some have retired and are blissfully married.

Floorball-wise, the bulk of the players started from scratch. Some went on to represent SIM in the 2013 IVP finals and achieve the Flames of Achievement Award. One of our players even won gold at SUNIG 2016! Another represented Singapore in the Floorball World Cup.

The best part about all this was being there for one another through the good and tough times. There was definitely some contemplation on ending our team on a high.

But here we are in our eighth year. We have three teams now- Dolphins, a Division 1 team, Orcas, a new Division 3 squad and Starfish, our beginner squad.

If you are interested to join us, there is definitely a team that will suit your needs. Dive right in!
